In this essay the author investigates the idea of common-sense in the work of Jacques Maritain, showing its gnosiological and metaphysical function. The discussion is preceeded by an historical and theoretical excursus, followed by the study of the connection between common sense and faith within the Christian Revelation, analyzed by the french philosopher, together with the contentious issue of the knowledge of the being. The work is not a simply a study of Maritain’s thought, but rather the assessment of the impact of the common sense notion: implicit philosophy, gift of nature and essence of every man’s spirit.
